Sound Welcome

ElectraChime

Our mission is to make your house sound welcome. The ElectraChime Long Bell Door Chime’s time has come again. Long Bell door adorned fine homes 1930s through the 1960s before disappearing from the market. ElectraChime revives this elegance. Many fine homes have a recessed alcove, nook or niche to frame and protect a door chime. Since your doorbell is the first thing visitors notice, certainly your home deserve a nice one.

ElectraChimes actually ring on the long bells that hang beneath their finely crafted cases. The bells provide a lasting resonance. No tinny, or electronic sounds from these chimes.

  Aluminum & Brass Bells

Bells

ElectraChimes look and sound beautiful. Our bells are constructed of metal alloys chosen especially for their musical qualities. When struck in succession by the electrical mechanism, the tubular bells produce two distinct notes determined by the length and diameter of the bell along with the material. The chamber of air within the bell also vibrates adding harmony and resonance. The shorter bell produces the "ding" and the longer bell produces the "dong". When the rear or side door button is pushed, only one bell is struck so you know where your visitor is waiting.

Brass bells ring a crisp, traditional notes with a lasting resonance. Our brass bells are polished to a satin finish that provides an understated, yet elegant, luster. Brass bells are clear coated to prevent tarnish.

Aluminum bells are an ElectraChime innovation for door chimes. The qualities of aluminum produce a deeper tone than do brass bells of the same length and diameter because the metal vibrates in a longer wave. Our aluminum bells are satin anodized, which actually changes the surface composition of the metal which results in a pleasing, warm finish.

When equipped, the optional third bell is strictly decorative––some people prefer the look of three bells over two.

Electrical Requirements

Chances are that your house is already correctly wired for a new ElectraChime. If you have a working wired chime now, installing your new ElectraChime can be completed in minutes. Our chimes operate with a standard 16 volt, 10 VA transformer. A 10 volt transformer will also provide the power. All ElectraChime products are equipped with circuitry for a front and rear or side door application. Simply hook up one wire to your front door button and another to the transformer. For rear or side door oeration, just connect the third wire to your back door. Never connect an ElectraChime to house current. ElectraChimes are easily installed with a screwdriver drill drive. Please refer to the wiring diagram at left for details. Please consult an electrician if you are uncertain about installation.

International Installation & Wiring

ElectraChime long bell door chimes have been successfully installed in Australia, Canada, Europe, Mexico, and many other countries. Outside of North America, most countries have 220 volt house current. A tranformer that matches the input from your local wiring is available at well stocked hardware store or DIY center. Make sure the output is between 10 and 16 volts for best results.

Installation on a Plain Wall or in a Chime Nook

Your ElectraChime ships with complete installation instructions. Since ElectraChime Door Chimes are meant to be seen and heard, we recommend choosing a spot where the case is just at or above eye level. Six and one half feet above the floor is ideal. Choose a location where your chime can be heard all over your house. The front entrance hall, the living room or dining room are typical locations.

ElectraChimes are nook friendly and proportioned to fit existing chime nooks that are at least 7 and 3/4 inches wide and at least 40 inches tall. Please contact us if you have a shorter or longer nook, niche or alcove.

  AccuTone Adjustment

The Quality is Built In

ElectraChimes are precision engineered for years of trouble free operation. Each chime is adjusted and tested before shipment. Our AccuTone adjustment system allows you to further fine tune the horizontal space between the striker mechanism and each bell for optimal acoustics after installation. Adjustment is achieved without tools by turning the hanger nut that suspends each bell. ElectraChimes are manufactured in San Rafael, California.

The ElectraChime Story

I remember this grand house in the neighborhood where I grew up. My brother and I rang their doorbell once a year--on Halloween. All the other houses in the neighborhood had ordinary doorbells. Yet this particuar doorbell sang. When the kindly couple opened the door. I marveled at the shiny long bells and the grace the chime added to their home. I always wanted one of those door chimes.

While remodeling my own home, I looked in every home center for a long chime door bell. The major manufacturers including NuTone, Rittenhouse and Edwards have long since left the quality long-bell door chime business. All I found were cheap doorbells absolutely lacking in appearance and sound. Even worse, most new door chimes are electronic chimes. Long Chime doorbells simply were not available. And vintage chimes were surprisingly scarce, and even if you find one, the bells are usually cracked. So I set out to craft my own.

After long hours of product development, a working chime was born. I even consulted with an Academy Award (r) winning sound engineer to make sure the sound was perfect. After seeing mine, a friend said he had an empty chime nook crying out for a door chime so I built another and ElectraChime was born. Today, ElectraChime offers a complete line of long bell door chimes for every decor.
